Book Week

8th Mar 2023

Last week we celebrated Book Week to coincide with World Book Day on Thursday. Who knew there were so many ways to enjoy and share books?

Each class held a competition based on books. We described our favourite characters, created illustrations and designed new book covers. It was incredibly hard to judge the competitions because there were so many creative ideas and carefully written descriptions. The winners earned a golden ticket to swap for a night with no homework.

In assembly, some children from 2nd class shared their work, Ms Kavanagh, Mr Jennings and Ms Natin shared one of their favourite picture books and then we all sang The Gruffalo song. It was lots of fun.

Senior Infants had the chance to share some reading with some students from Portmarnock Community School. It’s nice to read by yourself, but sometimes it’s nicer to share reading with friends and family.

On the day itself, lots of people came to school dressed as their favourite book characters and were visited by the incomparable Mr Read. He read everyone funny stories and we really enjoyed his visit.

Some of the staff volunteered to take part in The Masked Reader, a local spin-off of The Masked Singer. We had such a laugh guessing who was reading to us. Sometimes there were little clues like a bit of hair sticking up behind the cover. It was cool to be a detective.

Everyone also brought a book token home to buy a special World Book Day book in the shop.

Thank you very much to Mr Read, all the staff and all the families for making Book Week such a special time.
