China

18th Feb 2022

Second class was very excited to learn all about China during January in the run up to Chinese New Year which was celebrated on February 1st.

Dragons are a symbol of good luck in Chinese culture and feature heavily in celebrations such as Chinese New Year. The children in Room 6 each designed their own paper chain dragon, as well as working together to create a beautiful collaborative dragon. The collaborative dragon hangs outside our classroom and we hope it will bring everyone in our school good luck. We practiced mixing paints to make decorate the paper plates that make up the dragon's body, and then decorated it with our initials in Chinese writing. Did you know that they use a totally different alphabet in China? Their letters are very cool looking, and lots of the class really enjoyed having a go at writing the Chinese letters.

We also worked in small groups to research about China and create poster projects with lots of information and illustrations. Everyone worked really hard drafting and organising their information. We're very proud of our projects.
